Table for One Cooking Class
The Snacktivism Detroit Table for One Cooking Class, teaches people in single-person households how to conceptualize, create recipes for and prepare meals for one.
Couples Cooking Class
The Snacktivism Detroit Couples Cooking Class is a two-hour class designed to help strengthen relationships by creating a space where couples get in the kitchen and cook together. Attendees will be given “date night” meal planning ideas & recipes, will shop for ingredients in the Snacktivism Pantry and will prepare and enjoy their creations in a beautifully intimate setting.
Estella’s Community Brunch
Estella’s Community Brunch hosted by Snacktivism Detroit is a free, monthly brunch where community activists, food warriors, community stakeholders, residents and anyone who desires to eat delicious, made from scratch brunch fair will come together to break bread and have solutions-based conversations centered on supporting food justice and food security in the Detroit area.
Culinary Architecture Class
The Snacktivism Detroit Culinary Architecture Class is a quarterly event that takes attendees through a history lesson and down a timeline of the origins of regional foods. Because the Detroit area is rich with diverse cultures and varying culinary delights, the class exposes attendees to a wealth of historical information related to them.
Food Budget Literacy Course
The Snacktivism Detroit Food Budget Literacy course meets for two hours, every Saturday for four weeks. Its focus is dedicated to budgeting, meal planning, shopping and meal preparation. Snacktivism Detroit will teach attendees how to create a monthly food budget, plan meals based upon the budget, shop for and prepare those meals.
The Great Kitchen Takeover
The Great Kitchen Takeover is a social media campaign designed to bring awareness to not only the Snacktivism Detroit mission, but also, community issues surrounding relationships, food, love and activism. The Snacktivism Detroit Executive Director and CEO, Traci Alline Ricks, goes into Detroiters homes, and literally takes over their kitchen. She prepares a 3-course meal for a maximum of four people and records the process from start to finish. During the takeover, Traci poses morality-based questions to the dinner guests in an effort to spark meaningful conversations and personal connections.
